Dead Fish Films and Parlay Pictures are in pre-production on the true story baseball themed independent feature film “Undrafted” starring Chace Crawford. The project is a talent-laden production from top to bottom. The film’s casting directors are accepting audition videos from Los Angeles based talent for starring roles in the film. Both SAG-AFTRA and non-union talent are welcome to submit. An official “Undrafted” casting website has been set up for actors to download the audition sides and then upload a homemade video for consideration. Shooting will begin on September 9, 2013 in Los Angeles. The film’s extras will also be cast in Los Angeles throughout production.

“Undrafted” is based on a true story and centers on a very special day in the life of a promising young baseball player named John “Maz” Mazetti. After he discovers that he was not drafted, Maz has an epiphany one day that changes his life forever. He finds himself playing in a casual intramural summer league baseball game with a group of wacky teammates who feel strongly that Maz has the making of a great ball player. Throughout the day, Maz becomes increasingly sullen and negative especially when he fails to get a hit. Suddenly Maz has a revelation and he finds his purpose. It’s the final inning and Maz is back in the game.

Starring in “Undrafted” is four-time Teen Choice Awards winner Chace Crawford playing the role of Arthur Barone. Crawford will also executive produce. Young Artist Awards winner Joe Mazzello will play the role of Pat Murray. Mazzello will also produce and direct “Undrafted” from an original screenplay that he wrote himself. Crawford and Mazzello are close friends and share the same manager, Eric Podwall of Podwell Entertainment. Also producing is Dead Fish Films president Eric Fischer and head of development Brianna Lee Johnson. In addition to also being a very talented actor, Fisher is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins. Brianna Lee Johnson graduated with honors from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, and has extensive experience in both music and acting.

“Undrafted” Talent Search Details

Three-time Primetime Emmy Award nominated casting director Elizabeth Barnes and four-time Casting Society of America Artios Award nominee Corbin Bronson are conducting a talent search for lead roles in the indie feature film “Undrafted”. Both union and non-union actors can submit an audition video through an official casting website hosted by Cast It Talent. The following role is being cast, among others:

[JOHN “MAZ” MAZETTI} Male, 22. Average height, solid build. The star player. A natural, but reluctant leader. Looked up to by his teammates. Quieter than most. Capable of extreme focus. A clear awareness of right and wrong. We meet him at a very interesting crossroads in his life, which colors his personality. He is conflicted. Angry. Fighting with the father he loves. He is the character most in search of peace, who ultimately finds it.

There are also a number of other roles being cast, baseball player types from 20 – mid 30’s, and also Maz and Pat Murray’s fathers, who are in their 50’s. To be considered for these other roles, the casting directors are asking actors to simply submit an audition video reading for the “Maz” role.
