Updated 8-1-2013 New Day player casting call information posted below.

The major mystery thriller feature film “Dark Places” is now set to begin production this August, 2013 in Shreveport. Casting calls are going out for the remaining lead and supporting roles, and smaller speaking roles will continue to be cast through July and early August. The extras will be cast locally when filming begins and will continue throughout production. The movie is based on the mystery novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn, and is about a woman forced to re-face the massacre of her family over two decades before.

“Dark Places” centers on the protagonist Libby Day. When her mother and two sisters are killed in 1985, 7 year-old Libby testifies against her older brother Ben, who is convicted for the murders. Twenty years later in present day, Libby is still haunted by that tragedy which has colored her life. Out of money and options, she cynically agrees to meet Lyle and the crime buffs in his “Kill Club,” intending to make some quick money off her sensationalistic case. But as Lyle inspires her to question her past assumptions about that fateful night, it’s no longer about the money. Libby begins to investigate the murders in earnest, a perilous endeavor that could prove hazardous to her health.

Starring in “Dark Places” is Academy Award winner Charlize Theron playing the role of Libby Day. Theron signed on back in February after talks with Amy Adams fell through. She is currently finishing up shooting on the Universal Pictures feature film “A Million Ways to Die in the West,” starring alongside Amanda Seyfried and Liam Neeson. Also starring in “Dark Places” is People’s Choice Awards winner Chloë Grace Moretz playing the role of Diondra, who is the object of affection for Libby’s brother Ben. Moretz is wrapping up shooting the indie feature film “Laggies” in Seattle. Rounding out the first three roles cast is three-time Teen Choice Awards nominee Nicholas Hoult playing Lyle, the treasurer of the Kill Club. Hoult is winding down production on “X-Men: Days of Future Past”.

French filmmaker Gilles Paquet-Brenner will direct from an adapted screenplay that he wrote himself. Paquet-Brenner’s feature film directorial/writing credits include “Pretty Things” starring Marion Cotillard, “Walled In” starring Mischa Barton, and “Sarah’s Key” starring Kristin Scott Thomas. Charlize Theron will produce for her production company Denver & Deliah. Also producing is Matthew Rhodes and Cathy Schulman for Mandalay Vision, Peter Safran for The Safran Company, with Stéphane Marsil and A.J. Dix co-producing. Exclusive Media Group’s Alexander Yves Brunner will executive produce along with Nicolas Veinberg and Matthias Ehrenberg.
