Principal photography is set to begin in January, 2012 on Legendary Pictures massive action feature film production of “Paradise Lost”. Casting for the starring roles is being done in Los Angeles, CA and additional casting for supporting and other smaller roles will take place in Sydney, Australia where shooting will take place. The film’s extras, photo-doubles, and stand-ins for the films stars will all be done in Sydney.

“Paradise Lost” is based on an epic poem by the 17th-century English poet John Milton. The poem concerns the Christian story of the Fall of Man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The poem was originally published in 1667 in ten books, with over ten thousand individual lines of verse. A second edition followed in 1674, redivided into twelve books. Most of the poem was written while Milton was blind, and was transcribed for him.

The film will be heavy on the special effects with a very large budget. To bring John Milton’s masterpiece to life on the big screen, “Paradise Lost” is in the process of more than 20 weeks of pre-production, then there will be eight weeks of principal photography and motion capture, followed by 72 weeks of post-production and visual effects work.

The lead roles cast so far include Bradley Cooper as Lucifer, the incredibly beautiful and talented Camilla Belle as graceful submissive Eve, and Diego Boneta as Adam. Benjamin Walker will play the mighty archangel Michael who fought for God in the Angelic War. Two-time Academy Award nominated Djimon Hounsou will portray the angel of death Abdiel, Casey Affleck will take on the role of the six-winged Gabriel, a messenger to humans from God. Callan McAuliffe plays archangel Uriel, while Dominic Purcell has been cast as archangel Jerahmeel. Sam Reid has joined the cast to play Raphael, one of the lesser quartet of archangels beneath Lucifer.

Australian director Alex Proyas will helm “Paradise Lost” from an adapted screenplay written by Ryan Condal, Philip de Blasi, Stuart Hazeldine, Lawrence Kasdan, Byron Willinger, Stuart Hazeldine – who also conceived the story. Alex Proyas is best known for directing such films as The Crow, Dark City, I, Robot and Knowing. He is known for employing stylish photographic techniques in his films, with dark overtones usually in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing “Paradise Lost” for Legendary Pictures. Vincent Newman is producing under the banner of his production company, Newman Entertainment. Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired worldwide theatrical distribution rights.
