MGM Studios and Paramount Pictures in association with Rat Entertainment, Film 44, and Radical Pictures are in pre-production on the major feature film “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”. Filming is set to commence in early 2013, and the shooting location will be in Eastern Europe. The movie is based on the Radical Comics graphic novel of the same name written by Steve Moore. Casting for the film’s main stars will take place in Los Angeles and New York.

The story follows Hercules, the powerful son of Zeus who, after the loss of his family, turns his back on the gods and finds his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warms to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and presence of death. When the King of Thrace hires these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time, it is time for this bunch of lost souls to finally have their eyes opened to how far they have fallen.

Starring in “Hercules: The Thracian Wars” is two-time People’s Choice Awards nominee and Teen Choice Awards winner Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson playing the title role of the Greek demi-god Hercules. This is not the first mythical super being that Johnson has played, he starred as Mathayus in Universal Pictures “The Scorpion King” in 2002. He has an impressive lineup of upcoming films including the recently wrapped films “Empire State,” “Snitch,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” “Pain & Gain,” and “Fast 6”. He is also set to star as Sinbad in “Arabian Nights”.

Primetime Emmy Award nominee Brett Ratner will direct from an adapted screenplay written by Ryan Condal. Ratner has directed such films as “Rush Hour,” “Rush Hour 2,” “Red Dragon,” “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Horrible Bosses,” “Tower Heist,” and “Mirror Mirror”. Screenwriter Ryan Condal was hired by Spyglass Entertainment and Film 44 to write the Hercules script. Condal is also set up at Warner Bros. Pictures with his adapted screenplay for “Ocean,” a comic miniseries by Warren Ellis.

Executive Vice President of Radical Studios, Jesse Berger, is executive producing “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”. Barry Levine, also of Radical Studios, will produce. Two-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Peter Berg and Primetime Emmy nominee Sarah Aubrey are producing for Film 44. Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum will oversee production for Spyglass Entertainment, and Jonathan Glickman will oversee production for MGM.

Story:

Fourteen hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules was the powerful son of the god king Zeus, for this he received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and presence of death. These men and woman never question where they go to fight or why or whom, just how much they will be paid. Now the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. It is time for this bunch of lost souls to finally have their eyes opened to how far they have fallen when they must train an army to become as ruthless and blood thirsty as their reputation has become.
