NBC Universal is holding an open casting call for the upcoming three-hour live staging and telecast of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music”. The casting call is for boys and girls who can play roles between the ages of 6-14. The characters being cast are the seven Von Trapp Children. NBC will air the live broadcast on December 5, 2013. The casting team is seeking kids who are very good dancers with excellent acting skills.
Based on the original Broadway musical, “The Sound Of Music” is set in pre-World War II Austria and tells the romantic true story of Maria von Trapp, an aspiring nun who leaves the abbey to become a governess for the widower Captain von Trapp’s seven children and finds herself falling in love with Trapp and questioning her religious calling. Two-time Grammy Awards winner and Golden Globe Awards nominee Carrie Underwood has been cast to play the lead role of Maria. Underwood’s first acting role was on the CBS series “How I Met Your Mother” in 2010. She also played the role of Sarah Hill in the TriStar Pictures feature film “Soul Surfer”.
Eight-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Beth McCarthy-Miller and Tony Award winner Rob Ashford will direct “The Sound of Music” from a libretto written by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. Beth McCarthy-Miller is an industry leader in directing television shows. She directed over 200 episodes of “Saturday Night Live” and over 30 episodes of “30 Rock”, among countless other credits. Rob Ashford is a highly accomplished and respected stage and film choreographer and director. He is currently the choreographer on the Universal Pictures feature film “A Million Ways to Die in the West” starring Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, and Liam Neeson. He is set to serve as choreographer on the upcoming Walt Disney Productions feature film “Cinderella”.
Eight-time Primetime Emmy Award nominees Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will executive produce “The Sound of Music”. Zadan and Meron have produced many critically acclaimed and award-winning feature films, television movies, series and Broadway productions. Their films and television movies have garnered six Academy Awards, five Golden Globes, 11 Emmy Awards, and two Peabodys. For their work in television, their movies and series have amassed 85 Emmy nominations. Their work in theater has received 12 Tony nominations, including two wins. Their work has also received eight Grammy nominations, including one win.

All talent MUST have excellent singing and dancing skills.
All talent MUST be available from October 15, 2013 through December 5, 2013.
All talent MUST be NY Local hires. Meaning that transportation and accommodations will not be provided for talent located outside of the NY metro area.

Sign-in begins at 9:00am. DO NOT arrive before 9:00am. All talent MUST be checked in by 2:00pm.
Show up prepared to sing a short traditional musical theatre song acapella that shows off your voice. The casting team is asking all those auditioning to also have sheet music on hand for that song in the event that you are asked to sing along with accompaniment. Please bring snacks and beverages as you may be asked to stay for a few hours.
All talent must be legally eligible to work in the state of New York and in the United States.
