Screen Gems’ The Mortal Instruments feature film auditions and extras casting

The Mortal Instruments Casting Calls

Auditions for starring, co-starring, and supporting roles are underway for Screen Gems “The Mortal Instruments” feature film based on the first novel in author Cassandra Clare’s series, “City of Bones”. The next three novels are “City of Ashes,” “City of Glass,” and “City of Fallen Angels”. Filming begins in August, 2011 and will take pace in Los Angeles, CA. “City of Bones” will likely be the title of this first film in the franchise.

The Mortal Instruments series is about heroine Clary Fray who has The Sight. She can see demons and Shadowhunters and one of these Shadowhunters is Jace Wayland, who helps Clary find her mother after she is abducted. Cassandra Clare’s series is comprised of six novels and is widely expected to launch a new film franchise.

The two lead roles have been cast. Lily Collins has landed the starring role of 16-year-old Shadowhunter Clary Fray. Collins career is in high gear after recently co-starring with Taylor Lautner in “Abduction,” and being cast as Snow White in the upcoming “The Brothers Grimm: Snow White”. Jamie Campbell Bower has been cast to play the orphaned Shadowhunter Jace Wayland. Bower in no stranger to blockbuster series, as he has had roles in “Harry Potter” and “The Twilight Saga” films.

Scott Charles Stewart is directing ‘The Mortal Instruments’ from an adapted screenplay that he co-wrote with Jessica Postigo. Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz will executive produce, and Robert Kulzer will oversee day-to-day production for the company. Michael Lynne and Robert Shaye will produce for Unique Features. Dylan Sellers will co-executive produce for Dylan Sellers Productions.

A twitter account @lilyasclaryfray has been set up for Lily Collins to tweet as Clary Fray to connect with fans during the film’s production. Open casting calls will be posted here throughout all of the series productions.

Story:

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray (Lilly Collins) heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing – not even a smear of blood — to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace Wayland (Jamie Campbell Bower), a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know.
