With news of Kristen Stewart being Universal Pictures favorite to play Snow White opposite Viggo Mortensen as Eric the Huntsman, things are getting very interesting in the casting offices at the studio. Charlize Theron has signed on to play The Evil Queen, and auditions for the remaining co-starring and supporting roles will begin very soon.
Universal is moving full steam ahead on the project, possibly to give production a head start on Disney's kung-foo infused version titled "Snow and The Seven," which is in active development. Primetime Emmy nominated Joe Roth and Palak Patel, who currently runs Roth's company Roth Films, will produce from an adapted screenplay by Evan Daugherty.
"Snow White and the Huntsman" will be directed by the very highly talented and extremely respected British commercial director Rupert Sanders. Sanders has directed such visually powerful commercials for "Monster.com," "Halo 3: Believe," "Xbox: Joy," "Avtivision: Wolverine," "Halo: ODST," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," as well as others for Nike, Adidas, Absolut, and Guiness.
Riley Keough, Felicity Jones, Bella Heathcoat, and Alicia Vikander have all tested for the role of Snow White. However the studio is now in negotiations with Kristen Stewart and the shooting schedule fits perfectly. "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" wraps filming on April 15, 2011 and shooting on "Snow White and the Huntsman" commences shortly after.
Originally, Universal Pictures execs stated that they were leaning towards a new face for the role of Snow White, but have obviously decided to go with a proven box-office powerhouse the likes of Kristen Stewart. The remaining co-starring, supporting, and day player roles are up for grabs and unknown talent could be considered.
The Screen Actors Guild currently has United States shooting dates listed as August 1, 2011 through December 2, 2011. However there will be filming in the UK beginning as soon as late March/early April, 2011.
The film's release date is scheduled for December 21, 2012.

Story:
A PG origin and re-imagining tale of "Snow White" from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Tonally in the vein of "Alice In Wonderland". As evidenced by the title, the new take sees an expanded role for the Huntsman - in the fairy tale, he is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but instead lets her go - the two are chained together for part of the movie as they make their escape. The Huntsman is not a love interest (fear not, the prince is still in the story) but acts more as a mentor, teaching the teen girl to fight and survive.
